The Grammatical States are: Common, Mental, Unreal, Passive, Poetic
The Passive State Smks. in Affrilachian differes from that in Smokies,
mainly through its use of contraction from the verb "to fix."
The past or perfect form of the verb is always used in the passive state.
Important contraction are:
Passive Forms (using contracted copula forms):
| narr | waad | indon | may mout | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| seely | giyut, fixt'n1 | gitid | a'giyut | 'd giyut |
| bac-seely | 's gitid | 'er gitid | 'er a'fixny | 'lx'd fixterb |
| gwaan | fixty1 | a'fixny1 | a'fixt'n | 'd fixty |
| bac-gwaan | fixterb | don fixterb | 'lx fixterb | 'd fixterb |
1: These TAM markers can optionally be
followed by the copula, so both of the follow
examples are gramatically correct:
me fixt'n et = me're fixt'n et = me's fixt'n et
~ I am now eaten.
